My name is Chloe. I am a wife, a mama and an illustrator. I have been drawing, painting and creating my whole life. I love to delve into history and weave elements of bygone eras into my illustrations.
I am a nature analytic and meticulously depict the forms of the natural world and anything that inspires me, with desaturated colours and uneven textures resulting in antiquated visuals. The world is my studio, as I create my artworks in Procreate on my iPad and am able to draw wherever I please.
So come and be whisked away to nature, take a hot air balloon back in time and travel around the globe in my little old world of wonder, history, magic and mystery!
I grew up on a farm in Nelspruit, South Africa, where my father built a beautiful home atop a mountain. My family home has provided me with endless inspiration for my illustrations.
My parents filled our house with antiques, from large mahogany display cabinets to the tiniest of brass ornaments. The walls are adorned with Michelangelo prints in ornate golden frames. There is a Georgian leather top desk in my father’s home office, bedecked with old cameras, ink wells and frayed books.
The garden is decorated with concrete fountains, vegetable and herb gardens, rocky outcrops, rolling green lawns and a beautiful rose garden with stone steps running through the middle. All carpeted with minty fresh smelling greenery.
I now live in New Zealand, with my husband, Josh and beautiful baby Charlotte, who keeps me so very busy and is an absolute little character!
Outlining
In order to render an uneven texture, I first create a pencil sketch outline of whatever I want to draw, whether it be ideas from my imagination, or inspiration from a photo or my surroundings.
Sketching, Editing and Colour
Using the ‘Derwent Pencil’ in Procreate, I fill in this outline and the shapes within it with small pencil lines. Once I have completed this, I darken the pencil sketch in my photo editor and then add colour with the ‘Round Brush’ paint brush, adding shade and light as I go along.
Creating my illustrations in this way brings me immense joy and a lovely sense of peace, as though anything is possible.
My aim is to create artwork that will fill you with a sense of wonder, and that will inspire you to read, travel and sightsee, even if it is just in your own backyard. I also hope to encourage you to write, create and learn. Fill your minds with wonderful things that make you happy, that’s what I do! Quality is of great importance to me and I will provide you with beautiful art prints that will be on your walls for years to come.
My popular designs are available across range of prints and greeting card sizes. Are you looking to commission a special artwork piece? Get in touch with me for more information.
